Product Description
Multi Zone Etched Filter Disc — Graded Pore Pattern, One Piece Metal
Most etched filter discs carry a single uniform aperture pattern across the whole disc. This one is split into zones: the centre may hold a fine aperture field, the band around it a coarser array, and the outer edge a solid rim with the mounting features. The whole part is still one piece of metal — nothing is welded, stacked or glued — but the open area changes step by step across its radius instead of staying constant.
Zones are produced by photo chemical etching. Openings are etched into the metal sheet through a patterned resist, so the aperture shape, the pitch and the width of the metal left between openings are all set by the drawing file. Because different aperture sizes need different exposure and etch conditions, a multi zone pattern is built as a sequence of exposures on the same sheet, and the position of each zone boundary is registered to a common datum so that the zones stay concentric.
When a graded pattern is worth the extra step
- Staged capture: a coarser outer zone takes the larger debris first, so the fine centre zone is not blinded early
- Pressure balance: flow can be biased toward the centre or the rim without changing the outer diameter
- Support area: a denser, less open band can be left where the disc is pressed against a seat or a support grid
- Orientation: an asymmetric zone layout gives a visual and mechanical key so the disc can only be fitted one way
- Instrument look: a stepped aperture pattern reads clearly as a functional element on visible equipment
What is decided at drawing review
| Item | What is settled before release |
| Zone diameters | Inner and outer boundary of each zone, measured from the disc centre |
| Aperture per zone | Hole or slot size, pitch and the metal bridge left between openings |
| Transition band | Whether a solid ring or a gradual change is left between two zones |
| Aperture against thickness | Narrower openings in thicker sheet etch with a more visible taper; the ratio is checked first |
| Rim and mounting | Rim width, tab or notch position, screw holes and their pitch circle |
| Flatness | Open area is distributed on both faces to limit warpage on thin discs |

Cleaning and packing
Etched discs leave the line carrying resist residue and etch salts, so they are stripped, rinsed and dried before packing. Parts intended for a clean assembly can be supplied electropolished or passivated. Discs are then interleaved so that faces do not rub, and packed in a rigid carton with the parts restrained rather than left loose, since a thin disc with a large open area bends easily at the rim.
Inspection on each lot
- Outer diameter, rim width and mounting hole positions
- Zone boundary diameters against the drawing
- Aperture size and pitch checked zone by zone
- Visual check for incomplete openings, etch step and residual resist
- Flatness on flat discs; fit check on formed discs
- Surface condition and packing check before dispatch
Information needed for a quotation
Send the drawing with the zone layout, aperture sizes and pitch, outer diameter, rim and mounting features, together with the material, thickness, surface finish, quantity for the first order and the destination. Price and production timing are worked out per drawing, since aperture density, disc diameter and finishing route each change the etching time and the handling involved. Nothing on this page is a fixed offer; every disc is produced to the customer’s own specification.
